I received the Womapt Toddler Full Buckle carrier fromKids and immediately set to work trying it out with my 2.5 year old, as soon as I opened it I heard screeches of “up mum mum want to go uuuuuup”.
The Wompat Toddler Panel size measures 41cmx41cm. The panel is made from woven wrap-Girasol, but the carriers can also be custom made to order using your choice of fabric and measurements from wearababy. The waist adjusts from 68-120cm, and the padded part is quite bulky, not the style I would usually go for, but it isn’t as rigid as say a Tula or Ergo and has a quilted effect. It’s surprisingly comfortable.
Elanor is slightly past knee to knee in the toddler size, but height wise the panel was still a perfect fit, she was happy and refused to get down. The straps can be worn over the shoulders or crossed in a front carry, and the chest clip is perfectly adjustable to any height. There is just enough padding in the shoulder straps to give cush without being bulky and the Perfect Fit Adjusters are a nice touch although they didn’t really make too much of a difference with carrying Elanor.
I took the carrier along to a local babywearing meet intending to use it for nap time with my smaller toddler, who is 16 months old. In a back carry I was impressed I could tighten the straps in both ways, pulling away from my body and towards me (dual adaptors)but I found it really difficult to get a comfortable fit to me. Rosie however seemed happy and fell asleep really quickly. She has just reached knee-knee in this size and the panel height is perfect. The attached pixie hood is a super cute touch, especially with the extra-long reach straps, but the hood is huge and I feel is could be smaller, as I was worried due to the size of the hood asphyxiation may be an issue without constant checking and moving air around.
I next tried the wompat at airport pick up, and wore the littler of the two on my front. I managed to get a much better fit this time, and the Perfect Fit Adjusters really came into their own. They eliminated the awful gape I get from other SSCs and the wompat felt comfortable and secure. In a front carry trying ut the hood I could see it really did look like it was going to drown the little one but apart from that I was really happy with it. Because I couldn’t achieve a comfortable back carry I probably wouldn’t add one to my stash but I would definitely recommend everyone give one a try!
